Fit Inform SEPTEMBER 2009 River Springs Charter School’s Fitness & Activity Newsletter Welcome back everyone to another exciting year with the River Springs Charter School Family! In the 1st edition of Fit Inform we will cover some of the fun and healthy activities we will get into for the 2009-2010 school year. “Play ball!” Let’s get this year off to an active start inside & outside the classroom. “WE WANT TO PLAY” say the students! Based on a student survey, specific sports or Sports Skills Courses will be offered at most of our River Springs Academies. Please keep an eye on the Health and Fitness page of the school website to see what programs are offered at academies near you. Intramural Sports and the Sports Skills Course will be open to both academy and homeschool students. We plan on starting the Intramural Sports Program during the 1st week of October. Parent & Teacher coaches will be needed to help support local sporting activities near your academy or learning center. Please contact me directly with your interests - no experience required.
California Athletics for Homeschools
Volleyball girls girls ages 12-18 can play. There will be teams in Escondido, Temecula, Riverside, and other locations as part of this league. Tackle Football for High Schoolers! Boys ages 13-18 Can play 8 man full contact football. This starts very soon (mid to late Sep) and we would love to get a River Springs Charter School team in Temecula, Escondido, or Riverside.
Fundamentals of Basketball PE Boys & girls ages 5-18 will learn basics or further sharpen advanced players skills. Classes are located in 13 locations from San Diego to Los Angeles. For homeschool students contact your ES to apply for use of flex funds towards the above activities. Baptist University 8432 Magnolia Ave. Riverside 92504) Dec 21-23rd, 9am - 3pm.This class normally cost $130. Our students get a 10% discount bringing it down to $117. This is not organized by our school but offers students a chance to stay active during the winter break and learn some valuable baseball skills. See Health and Fitness website to view the flyer. Who knows what Geocaching is? Me neither…just kidding =) It’s an active, technology infused treasure hunt enjoyed worldwide by thousands of people of all ages. If the above activities are not for you this may be your cup of tea. See our flyer online for details. 100 Mile Club Attention all walkers & runners! Start logging NOW! Tally miles walked or ran on a weekly basis to participate in the River Springs Charter Schools 100 Mile Club Team. All are welcome. The official run/ walk 5k kickoff is in Temecula (Oct 18th) Again, as long as parents are signing off mileage you can start tracking miles now that go towards the goal of 100 miles walked or ran during the school year. Finishers will be awarded a medal at our year end (May 2010) ceremony. Happy Training!
